'The Soil' is a film that exceeds the classic understanding of rural music as an element of tradition or folk art and shows how singing leads to the building of a community. This film takes one back to the roots in the most literal sense. Farming and manual labor in the soil have shaped this music - it can not be understood without the context of this hard, tedious and risky work. 'The Soil' is a film about contemporary rural music: the journey of a singer and a violinist to meet musicians - senior citizens, living in rural areas that, as it turns out, can sometimes be music capitals of the world.
